I enjoyed my recent interview with AI advocate and author, Arthur Goldstuck, an influential writer on technology and AI from South Africa and author of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to AI". Arthur has a strong foundation in journalism and technology. He has continually built upon both of these skills through practical experience and a keen interest in staying ahead of tech trends. With result, his work has informed and inspired many in the tech community, making him a respected voice in the industry.

Background

Arthur's career path is a blend of his two loves: tech and writing. He found a special spot for himself in the tech world by mixing these passions. Starting as a writer, he covered both music and tech news. In the 1990s, he also wrote for Billboard magazine in South Africa.

He shared a key moment in his work life when he started a computer section, called PC Review, in the Weekly Mail newspaper, now called Mail and Guardian. This supplement aimed to make technology accessible to ordinary readers while highlighting cutting-edge developments. It also showed off the newest tech ideas. Arthur saw early on how big the Internet would be and led the way in writing about its effects in South Africa.

In 1994, Arthur co-authored "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Internet," a groundbreaking book that introduced many South Africans to the Internet for the first time. This book led to a surge in demand for consulting and research services, prompting him to start a research company called Media Africa. Despite facing challenges, Arthur's passion for technology and innovation didn't waver.

In 2001, Arthur founded Worldwide Works, a boutique research firm that uses the Internet and new tools to do critical studies. His work has consistently focused on emerging technologies, including cloud computing and AI. Arthur's deep understanding of AI led to the publication of his latest book, "The Hitchhiker's Guide to AI," which aims to demystify AI and its implications for businesses and individuals.
